Barnaby Hunt - inventor and director of the Barney Bund

With more than ten years experience on major construction projects across London, I have worked alongside Tier 1 contractors and gained direct insight into the recurring challenges faced on construction sites.

One of the most persistent issues has been the inefficiency of temporary water protection. A process that often consumes significant time and resources while generating avoidable waste. A common example is the use of timber boxes externally painted with a waterproofing membrane around pipe penetrations, which are typically discarded when they are no longer required.

To solve this, I developed the Barney Bund: a reusable, quick-to-install system designed to streamline installation, minimise site waste, and provide reliable, cost-effective protection for every stage of the build.

Barnaby Hunt, Inventor and director of the Barney Bund.

What is the Barney Bund?

The Barney Bund is a modular pipe bund system designed to temporarily seal around core-drilled holes up to 250mm in diameter. It prevents water ingress and debris entry while your project remains exposed to the elements — and it’s built tough enough to reuse across multiple jobs.

This is the first product in a growing range of modular bunds designed for the rigours of UK construction sites. Simple. Fast. Reusable.

How it works

The modular bunding solution built for speed, reuse, and real-world worksites.

1

Clear the installation area of dust and debris.

2

Position the bund over the core hole.

3

Mark the four fixing points using the bund base.

4

Drill four 6mm holes, 75mm deep into the slab.

5

Fix the bund using the provided bolts, tightening gradually in sequence (10–15mm at a time) until compressed and sealed.

6

Install the lid as shown in the video.

7

In wind-prone areas, add 4 secondary self-tapping screws to secure the lid.

8

Reuse with confidence. When the area is no longer at risk, remove the bund and store it for future use — zero waste, zero faff.
